Child Counselling

Working with children and young people in schools for over 20 years, I am a dedicated advocate for improved mental health opportunities for all. I have been committed to improving the life chances of children - particularly those who have experienced bereavement and or those who have been in the role of a young carer.

Personal experience of being a young carer led me to establish a support group which in turn led me to formally train and qualify as a counsellor.

Working with children and young people in schools for over 20 years.
I have a vast experience of working within schools and can integrate this knowledge into my approach when working with children suffering with school difficulties.

Children benefit from counselling for many different reasons – just like adults, they benefit from having from having a safe space to talk without judgement or fear too.
  • Low confidence and self esteem
  • Feelings of persistent sadness
  • Bullying
  • Relationship difficulties – this could be with friendships or family
  • Anger and aggression
  • Parental separation or divorce
  • Bereavement or anticipated bereavement of a family member or pet
  • Trauma, abuse or neglect
  • Worry and Stress – often linked to school work, etc.

I have experience of working with children in a variety of techniques and methods – including play therapy, and am flexible and adaptable to tailor my approach to the unique individual child and their circumstances.

I empower the children and young people that I work with to feel able to talk through and explore the issues facing them and encourage and support them in finding and building the strength, life skills and inner confidence to find their own positive solutions.

When working with children and young people it can often be difficult for parents to feel fully informed about what is happening within the therapy room – as for counselling to be successful it takes place only with the counsellor and the child in the room.

I ensure that parents are informed with regular meetings with themselves, myself and the child/young person – to ensure that communication is open, encouraged and supported. This would all be further explained during the initial consultation.
