Counselling for Teenagers and Young People

With experience of working with young people in a variety of settings including both educational and counselling for over 20 years, I am committed to improving mental health and life chances for young people with particular experience of working with those who have been bereaved or those who have been in the role of a young carer.

Personal experience of being a young carer led me to establish a support group which in turn led me to formally train and qualify as a counsellor.
Teenagers and young people benefit from counselling for a variety of reasons
I have a vast experience of working within schools and can integrate this knowledge into my approach when working with children suffering with school difficulties. With professional and personal experience accessing the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) system and the often long waiting lists which can often be in place before help can be established and attained. I can provide therapy and support during this time for both the young person or their parent to bridge this gap and ensure that you can access help when you need it.

Teenagers and young people benefit from counselling for a variety of reasons – similar to adults, they benefit from having a safe space to talk where they can be heard without fear of being judged or rejected.

 These reasons could include:

  • Anxiety
  • Stress – linked to school work, exams, etc
  • Low confidence and self esteem
  • Bullying
  • Trauma, abuse or neglect
  • Relationship difficulties – linked to family or friendships
  • Anger and aggression
  • Parental separation or divorce
  • Feelings of persistent sadness
  • Eating disorders
  • Bereavement or anticipated bereavement of a family member or pet
Through my experience of working with young people I have a range of techniques and methods and am adaptable and flexible in my approach to meet the individual needs of each person.

I empower the young people that I work with to feel able to explore and talk through the issues that they are facing, and encourage and support them in finding and building the strength, life skills and inner confidence to find their own positive solutions
